Welcome to the 2017 National Magnet Nurse of the Year® Awards online submission site!

The American Nurses Credentialing Center invites you to submit a nomination for the seventh annual National Magnet Nurse of the Year® award program. The National Magnet Nurse of the Year awards recognize the outstanding contributions of clinical nurses in each of the five Magnet® Model components:

  • Transformational Leadership
  • Structural Empowerment
  • Exemplary Professional Practice
  • New Knowledge, Innovations & Improvements
  • Empirical Outcomes

Eligibility Criteria

  • ANCC will accept only one submission from each Magnet-recognized organization regardless of size, setting, or location.
  • The nominator must assign the nominee to one of the five Magnet Model categories during the online submission process.
  • The registered nurse nominee must be a clinical nurse primarily responsible for direct patient care at a Magnet-recognized organization or system.
  • As long as the nominee's unit/area is part of a Magnet-recognized organization, nominees may have a range of tenures, hours worked, and locations of employment.
  • ANCC does not charge an entry fee for nomination submission.

Online Submission Steps and Instructions:

  1. Award Agreement

    Read the Eligibility Criteria and acknowledge compliance.
  2. Magnet® Model Category

    Assign the nominee to one of the five Magnet® Model categories.
  3. Entry Details

    Enter title of nomination, nominator email, and nominee qualifications.
  4. People

    Enter name, affiliation, and contact information for nominator, nominee, and CNO Endorser
  5. Documents

    The nominator's online submission must include:

    Letter of endorsement: 500-words-or-less from the chief nursing officer (CNO) of the nominating Magnet-recognized organization or system describing why the nominee should be chosen as the National Magnet Nurse of the Year in the designated Magnet Model category.

    • The CNO must write the letter of endorsement on official organization letterhead and must include his or her full contact information-CNO name, credentials, email address, direct phone number, and organization address. The CNO must sign the letter of endorsement

    Nominee's resume (3-page maximum): Must outline his or her credentials, educational background, work experience, professional activities, publications, presentations or projects, and full contact information-nominee name, credentials, home address, email address, and direct phone number.

    Narrative essay: 500 words or less, written by the nominator, demonstrating:

    1. The contribution(s) the nurse nominee has made in the designated Magnet Model category

    2. How the nurse nominee's contribution(s) exemplifies excellence in the designated Magnet Model category

    3. The resulting nursing impact in the organization, region, and/or nation or world

    The nominator must write the narrative essay on official organization letterhead and must include his or her full contact information-nominator name, credentials, email address, direct phone number, and organization address.

  6. Confirmation

    You will have a chance to look over the submission to make sure all is complete.
  7. General Instructions

    Nominators must complete submissions through the online submission website. The website details all application information and walks nominators through the submission process step-by-step. Nominators must complete submissions by Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. Note: ANCC will review only completed applications.

    ANCC will notify winners by July 2017. ANCC will present the National Magnet Nurse of the Year awards during the ANCC National Magnet Conference® in Houston, Texas held October 11-13, 2017. In addition, ANCC will feature award announcements on the ANCC website and will publish them in local and national press releases.

  8. Rules

    • Previous winners of a National Magnet Nurse of the Year® award and their organizations are excluded from eligibility for 24 months.

    • The National Magnet Nurse of the Year Awards committee will consider only properly submitted applications and material submitted with or in support thereof.

    • Material submitted with or in support of any application shall be received on the conditions that:

      • The National Magnet Nurse of the Year award committee shall have permission to use and display submitted materials in any manner it deems appropriate and to not return such material or any portion thereof to the nominee or nominators.

      • The National Magnet Nurse of the Year award committee may make such disclosure of the names of the nominees and of the work disclosed in such material as the committee deems appropriate.

      • No claim shall be made and no action shall be brought against the American Nurses Credentialing Center, its board of directors, employees, or members of the National Magnet Nurse of the Year award committee arising out of the use made of such application material or of any such disclosure.

      • The decision of the National Magnet Nurse of the Year award committee is final. If the National Magnet Nurse of the Year award committee does not consider any applications suitable in a given category during a given year, ANCC shall not give a National Magnet Nurse of the Year award in that category.

      • Submitting a nomination constitutes agreement that each representative submitting the nomination and each nominee agrees to be bound by the rules of the National Magnet Nurse of the Year award program.

  9. Prize

    • All-expense-paid trip to the ANCC National Magnet Conference®, which includes airfare, transportation to and from the conference airport to designated hotel, lodging for time period as designated by the National Magnet Nurse of the Year® award program, and Magnet® conference registration fee

    • Presentation of award winners at the ANCC National Magnet Conference

    • Award announcements on the ANCC website and via local and national press releases

    • Invitation to the National Magnet Nurse of the Year reception

    • Professional photos taken at the ANCC National Magnet Conference
